ORT AMERICA AND THE BROWARD CHAPTER OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTES PRESENT:  LITERATURE AND THE LAW

 

    The Broward League of Women Voters is delighted to join ORT America in presenting  Literature and the Law.  Now in its 11th season, this popular series features a movie at 12:30, followed by a discussion of the legal issues raised, led by Miami attorney Andy Kassier,  

    Friday, February 8, 12:30PM, Bonaventure Town Center – movie, the documentary Michael and Me, produced by Larry Elder who spent months trying to interview Michael Moore about the conclusions in Moore’s film “Columbine”.  At 2:00PM, attorney Andy Kassier will lead a discussion on gun control, is this the answer to mass killings?

Cost - $7 per session, payable at the door. --- Friday, March 8 -  10:30PM

 

WESTON PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY  

CITY OF WESTON PERFORMING ARTS SERIES – IN COOPERATION WITH THE WESTON PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

    Tickets for these concerts are going like hot cakes – so don’t be shut out!  Tickets are available at the Weston Community Center in Regional Park, Comerica Bank and the Community Bank of Broward for the two outstanding concerts described below!

       March 2 - Symphony of the Americas, who thrilled us with their fabulous fall Pops concert, returns to Weston with Opera to Broadway III, again featuring 4 internationally acclaimed singers performing with the orchestra.

      April 20 – The Dallas Brass will entertain us with classical, swing, patriotic music and more.  Wait till you hear this brass and drum ensemble, with piano, bring us Rhapsody in Blue!  And – they have invited the Cypress Bay High School brass musicians to join them for part of the performance!  A perfect compliment to the Philharmonic in-schools program!

    Don’t miss these delightful shows, because this is the final season for the Center Stage Series.

    Saturday, February 2, Paul Tanner, musical variety show.

    Sunday, February 17, 8PM – The Bronx Wanderers - musical variety.  Plus a walk down memory lane in celebration of Bob Fedderwitz’s 25th anniversary at Bonaventure Town Center.  Don’t miss this one – it’ll be a great evening!

WESTON ART GUILD

  January 10 thru March 10 - Weston Art Guild exhibit at Glass Gallery in Pembroke Pines, Government Center, 10100 Pines Blvd.  Our members will be displaying over 80 pieces of high quality and very diverse art - large and small works, flowers, landscapes, sculptures and photos.

    We hope you can join us for the reception – but mark your calendar to come view the exhibit – it’s a must see show we know you will enjoy.

HOT TOPICS

   New date – same terrific format.  Hot Topics will now meet the first Thursday of each month, 7:30PM, at the M Café in the Weston Midtown Athletic Club.  Free and open to the public.  Complimentary cookies, beverages will be available for sale.

    Thursday, February 7 – great topic!  Tim Donovan, assistant special agent in charge of  Florida for the FBI will bring us up to date on what’s going on in crime and terrorism our state.

CLEVELAND CLINIC

   Free professional Puppet Show – Saturday, February 9  – 1:30PM and 3:30PM – Weston Community Center in Weston Regional Park. Little Red Riding Hood – an all-new twist on an all-time favorite, the Wolf and Red both learn some valuable lessons on the way to Grandmother’s house.  Exciting – educational – what big smiles you will have!  Best suited for Pre-K through 2nd grade with a parent or guardian.

    Free Moonlight Movie in the Park – February 9 - 7:30PM, Weston Regional Park.  Bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the show.  This month features Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days.  School is out and Greg is ready for it.

ARTS COUNCIL OF GREATER WESTON

  CELEBRATE THE ARTS - February 10, 12:00AM-5PM - Weston Town Center, featuring Young at Art, a Weston Art Guild exhibition, a playing patch (instruments for kids of all ages to play) presented by Jammin' Kids and the Weston Philharmonic Society, a graffiti wall, and continuous entertainment by the Cypress Bay and Sagemont drama, band, and choral departments. A perfect art day for every resident of Weston!

  CELEBRATE DANCE - February 23, 6:00PM-10:00PM - come watch the pros perform, then let them teach you how to dance. Fun, music, excitement as we learn tango, zumba, salsa, flamenco, and more! For everyone 3 to 93 (and counting)!
